Welcome to the official blog of Hokusei Kashinoki Hokkaido and Shiba Inu. I am an AKC Shiba Inu and NIPPO Hokkaido Ken fancier living in Puyallup, WA with my Shiba Inus, Hokkaido Ken and their guardian Caucasian Ovcharka, Grym.
I focus on training for Obedience, Agility, Rally, Flyball and Conformation, among other things, with a very small number of dogs living in my home. All of my Shibas and CO have their CGCs, with multiple performance titles with Agility, Barn Hunt, Rally, and Flyball with Seattle Flydogs, joining the small handfull of Shibas in the history of the breed to be successful Flyball dogs. Beebe was their second student and is enjoying her fourth season with the team along with Farrah. Both girls were the first and second Shibas to earn AKC’s Coursing Ability test, and Beebe has the distinction of being the breeds’ first Truffle hunting Shiba Inu.
My goal for my dogs is to provide them with all the extras in life that they deserve as they are my honored and cherished companions. More recently I have begun working with Hokkaido Ken, a breed related to Shibas and not too very different in appearance, with a more human focused temperament. Hokusei Kashinoki Shiba and Hokkaido Ken 北西樫ノ木 
HI there, My rescued Shiba is now 7 years old and simply magnificent in body mind and soul. I noticed around the age of 3 or 4 the pigment on his stomach began to darken. He is now seven and as if overnight most of his abdomen and into his chest is quite black. No smell, no flaking, nothing that would make me pause for concern…except the coloring. I have an appt with the vet but realize many breeders know far more about the indiosyncratric needs of a specific breed that they might. Any ideas? Warnings? advice? tcapaldo@aol.com
Hi,
I would look into doing a thyroid panel as that description is something seen in hypothyroid dogs very often. It is common in the Japanese breeds. Other things are Cushings disease and Atopy. Doing bloodwork is the best approach. Best of luck to you!
